An iconic set of breaks is a throwback to surfing's simpler times.

Three miles south of San Clemente,  San Onofre State Beach is one of The O.C.'s last hidden beaches and home to the landmark surf spot known as Trestles. On good days, some of the world’s top surfers catch waves at this series of breaks and it's no wonder that so many people fought to protect the beach from a proposed toll road. Trestles is less known for the size of its waves than for their perfect shapes. One surf legend even said that Trestles offered "the greatest wave of its kind" in the contiguous United States.
